Another unfinished painting I haven’t worked on since February 2023, though this one is very close to being finished.

O make me a mask and a wall to shut from your spies
Of the sharp, enamelled eyes and the spectacled claws
Rape and rebellion in the nurseries of the face,
Gag of a dumbstruck tree to block from bare enemies
The bayonet tongue in this undefended prayerpiece,
The present mouth, and the sweetly blown trumpet of lies,
Shaped in old armour and oak the counternance of a dunce
To shield the glistening brain and blunt the examiners,
And a tear-stained widower grief drooped from the lashes
To veil belladonna and let the dry eyes perceive
Others betray the lamenting lies of their losses
By the curve of the nude mouth or the laugh up the sleeve.

I just started painting over a failed painting, and now I like it better than the original (underpainting) or the painting I had in my mind 🙄. It could ne called “I could just as Well be blind”, though I’ll probably change it again.

I started working on this one yesterday. It’s my first “realistic” portrait painting and I like it more than I thought I would (both the process & the painting). I might work on it just a little bit more, when the oil paint dries, in which case I’ll most probably post it again.

Today is the deadline for submitting artwork in one of the greatest Danish juried art exhibitions, and even though I knew more than a month ago that I was not going to have time to work on any of the 23 paintings I am “currently” working on (read: unfinished paintings), I still feel as though I just missed a deadline, so I thought I could at least post smth. on my neglected Instagram.
